Juan: Thank you for making the effort to find me to let me know of my dear friend Lucy's passing. Lucy had posted a photo of a Saint Bernard, Gretzky, who was in desperate need of rescue due to his poor health and questionable behavior, as he had been abused terribly. In the first few moments of our first telephone conversation, it was clear that we were destined to become friends. I loved her and admired her big heart, her kindness and her compassion. We could talk for hours about our beloved dogs. Gretzky lived with us for almost 9 years and my relationship with Lucy helped me decide to leave my job in order to create a Saint Bernard rescue that helped place almost 200 dogs over the years. Without Lucy's moral support and encouragement, I never would have taken on such a rewarding yet challenging task. I loved her very much and wondered at the depth of her compassion and caring. Thank you for all you did for my friend. She told me many times how much you helped her. I only wish we had been in touch more frequently these past years and that I had the chance to get to know you. If you ever want to talk about her, in any capacity, my ear is available to you as she will always remain deep in my heart.

Lucy and I met when we were 8 or 9 years old. After High school, we went our separate ways to then have life reunite us in 2009. Juan, I am so glad you picked the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, for that prayer is who she personified. She loved people, but don’t you hurt any dogs, for you were in trouble with the fiercest of advocates. Lol. Such grace and such a beautiful soul. Will eternally be grateful and honored to call her my friend. Her light will continue to shine in our hearts.

Juan I am so sorry to hear of Lucy’s passing. She was a beautiful human who cared for all of us. She was always so good with any dog she met and even after you moved Caramel would always stop by your house on North Hill looking for her.
