I will never forget the first time I met Fran. We were all doing an open water swim from Sandy Hook to Sea Bright, NJ. I got out of the water (because I was scared) and ran the rest of the way down Ocean Ave. in my wetsuit! When I got to the parking lot at the finish in Sea Bright, I saw Fran and her son, Bill, watching the swimmers and cheering for Carol and Turby. I introduced myself and we became great friends from then on. Fran always had a beautiful smile and warm welcome every time I saw her. She was genuinely interested in all our adventures and always had encouraging words for me. I will never forget being included in all of Carol's birthday celebrations (eventually bringing my mother too!). Fran was really a special person who left a piece of her with everyone she met. She will be greatly missed.

Fran was a remarkable and very special person. It was a privilege to know her and a blessing to have her in my life. I will most remember her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit, and will always cherish her enduring friendship. She stepped in as a 2nd mom after my parents passed away, offering her wisdom, giving me encouragement, and making sure that I was well and felt cared for. And she always made me laugh. She was one of my heroes, and I hope I can live up to her example. She will be greatly missed and forever loved. xoxo Mary Grangeia
