Obituary of Mary Forakis

Marie (Mary) Forakis, age 98, passed away peacefully in her home in Manalapan, NJ on March 18, 2020.  Graveside services were held for the immediate family at the Forest Green Park Cemetery in Morganville NJ on March 20.

Mary was born on October 29, 1921, a daughter of the late Vasilios and Evangelia Policandritis of Crete, Greece.  She grew up in New York City with her family which was active in the Greek community and Cretan club.  She was an accomplished seamstress and artist, loved going to the ballet, enjoyed all kinds of dancing, loved to cook and bake (especially her famous rice pudding and chocolate chip cookies), and was selflessly devoted to her family and many friends throughout the years.  

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years and WWII veteran George J. Forakis, her daughter, Elaine Likakis, her grandson, Mike Likakis, brother Mike Poulos, and niece Valerie Manos.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Marinos of Manalapan, son-in-law Anthony Marinos, son-in-law Ted Likakis, 6 grandchildren and their families including 10 great-grandchildren; her sister Catherine Manos and many other nieces, nephews and other family members.

Loved ones will remember her kindness, devotion, warm smile, upbeat sprit, calm demeanor and a love of classical music, babies and butter.
