Obituary of Martha Joann Ghezzi

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Born in Brooklyn on September 29, 1944, Martha passed away peacefully after a long hard-fought illness.  She was one tough cookie. After a childhood in Queens, Martha met Arthur Ghezzi, the love of her life, while they were in high school.  A few years later, they married and departed for Dunoon, Scotland, where Artie served in the Navy on the USS Hunley, a submarine tender, and she gave birth and cared for their first child, Arthur.  Upon returning to the States, Artie and Martha were soon blessed with their daughters, Kim and then Michelle.  They initially raised their young family in Long Island, then moved to Lakewood, New Jersey.  After settling “in the country” (as she would say), Artie and Martha started a business, Arthur Ghezzi Appliance Service, which proved to be an exceedingly successful venture.

When Martha was not working on the business, she was devoted to her three children.  Her blessings did not end there.  Martha blossomed as her grandchildren arrived, providing them with, among other things, unforgettable Christmases, adventures on Grandpa’s powerboats, delicious homemade cooking, and most importantly, her unconditional love and attention.  She made indelible memories for all of her family members and she loved vacationing with Artie in the Caribbean.  Martha, whose beloved Artie passed away in December 2015, is survived by her son Arthur and his fiancé Christine Lodise (Freehold), daughter Kim Healey and her husband William (Colts Neck), daughter Michelle Meulendyk (Matawan), brother Joseph Schaefer and sister in law Rose Ann,  six grandchildren (Ryan Healey, Anthony Meulendyk, Sarah Healey, Ashley Meulendyk, William Healey and Matthew Healey).

Artie, guess who’s joining you for Christmas?

Visitation will be on Monday, December 16, 2019, from 6 pm to 8 pm, and on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, from 5 pm to 7 pm, at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, New Jersey.  Burial will take place at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightsown, New Jersey, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 1:30 pm.
