Obituary of Wallace James Barnes

Wallace J Barnes, 86, of Marlboro, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012, at home. Born in Brooklyn, he has resided in Marlboro for the past 20 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Merchant Marine. He worked as a seaman on the NY waterways for 46 years retiring as a captain on the Governor's Island Ferry.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marie, in 2002; his son, James; and his sister, Doris Christopher. He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Ann and George Herbst of Marlboro and Catherine Ward of Red Bank; his brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Kathy Barnes; sisters and brother-in-law, Elinor Barnes and Marilyn and Allen McConnell; and three devoted grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Rosemary.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, June 27th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, June 28th, at 10 AM at St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Marlboro. Interment will follow at Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Bloomingburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society in keeping with Wally's love for all creatures great and small, or Alzheimer's Association to help find a cure.
