The Hernandez family has held a special place in my heart for over 50 years. Migdalia came into my 2nd grade class at Hudson Street School. She sat next to me so it was my "job" to instruct her to the regulated manner in which all school work had to be submitted. We became - and have remained - friends from that moment to the present.
Mr. (and Mrs. Hernandez - to me they were always a pair ) were very sweet at my attempts to use some of the Spanish I learned in school.....the attempts were not particularly successful!! Mr. Hernandez was a kind, patient man who had a wonderful sense of humor. I have always felt honored to be a welcome visitor to their home. He will be much missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
