Obituary of Garrett Voorhees jr

Garrett Voorhees Jr., 88, of Marlboro Township, passed away on August, 1st, 2016 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Garrett was born in Jersey City and has resided in Marlboro for most of his life. He served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps for 2 years during the Korean War and the reserves for 8 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Garrett was a lifetime member of the Marlboro Fire Dept. performing as Assistant Chief, Chief, Secretary and Trustee. He was Secretary to the Marlboro Township School Board for 21 years; and a member of the Old Brick Reformed Church serving as Elder, Clerk of Consistory, and Superintendent of Sunday School. Garrett was predeceased by his 2 siblings, John Voorhees and Walter Voorhees. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence; his 3 children and their spouses, Susan and Timothy, of Stuart, FL, Garrett III and Karen, of Kingswood, TX and John James Kingman, of New Egypt; his 4 grandchildren, Stanley Garrett Buys, Elizabeth Voorhees Williams, Hannah Adele Voorhees Wiese and Garrett Voorhees IV; and 3 great grandchildren, Zasha Christopher Buys, Zacharyah Caden Buys and Lilah Grace Williams. Friends and family are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, August 5th from 7- 9 PM, at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E Main St, Freehold. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at the Old Brick Reformed Church, Marlboro. Interment will follow at the church's cemetery.
