Some of the most fond memories I have with Charlie are from when we were younger. We lived just four blocks away from each other — his mom and my dad were siblings, making us first cousins. I’m taken back to when my dad would take me and my sister to Coney Island with Charlie and his siblings. We would swim in the ocean and enjoy ham and cheese sandwiches on the beach, followed by my dad giving us a choice between “ice cream or a ride.” We always had fun together, wherever we went. Charlie and I went to Sunday school together, DVBS, and we were a year apart in school. Needless to say he was a bright student. When we were younger Charlie contracted Polio. In the face of health challenges, Charlie was always strong. Through God’s mercy he overcame the illness and went on to live life to the fullest. I can recall when he started dating Johanna, he was totally crazy about her. They shared a wonderful marriage and created such a loving family — Charlie leaves a beautiful legacy. He will be greatly missed, but we have the assurance that one day we will see him again. - Vicky Cafaro Cordova
