Obituary of Michael Fazio
Michael A. Fazio, 66, of Freehold, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 12, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Born in the vibrant borough of the Bronx, NY, Michael made his way to Staten Island with his family in 1966. He was a proud alumnus of Tottenville High School and went on to earn an Associate's degree from Staten Island College, with further studies at New York City Technical College.
A true Renaissance soul, Michael was both an artist and a writer. His career at Dover Publications in Manhattan was a testament to his dedication and talent. He generously shared his passion for the arts through numerous volunteer roles at prestigious institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, and various art galleries across Manhattan.
Michael's creative legacy is highlighted by his published works, including his celebrated poetry collection, "Winning: A Study in Brevity," and his poignant short story, "Dear Johnny, Love Music." His final project, a children's story titled "A Voice in the Crowd," is set to be published soon, a fitting culmination of his life's work.
Michael's boundless affection for his family and friends was evident in his love for traditions and the joy he found in celebrating holidays, with Christmas holding a special place in his heart. He was known for his charismatic performances, delighting everyone with his renditions of various songs.
An eternal student of life, Michael had an insatiable curiosity and appreciation for the arts. From singing show tunes to penning heartfelt poems and stories, he found solace and inspiration in music, movies, and literature. His favorite film, The Sound of Music, had a profound impact on him from the age of six. Michael's daily rituals often included watching or singing along to this beloved movie, which provided him comfort and joy throughout his life.
Michael lived by the adventurous spirit of the film’s iconic song, “Climb Every Mountain,” embracing its message of perseverance and pursuit of dreams. His zest for life and his unwavering belief in chasing one’s aspirations are his lasting legacy and will continue to inspire those who knew him.
