Obituary of Lucy Giordano

Please share a memory of Lucy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lucy Giordano, 90, of Freehold, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Freehold, NJ, 23 years ago.

For over 20 years, Lucy worked as an Executive Secretary. She began her business career as a keypunch operator for a trading company located in the World Trade Center (which was shocking because she had a fear of heights) and rose to a role as an Executive Secretary for Commerzbank. She took great pride in her work and put in long hours to ensure a job was well done.

She met the love of her life, Louis Giordano, as a teenager. After graduating high school, their relationship turned serious, and they became engaged. They married when Lucy was 21 and remained married until 1969 when Louis died. Lucy never remarried.

Perhaps Lucy’s proudest role was that of mother to her only daughter, Lucille. She worked hard to ensure Lucille had a good and happy life, watched with pride as she grew and flourished in her career, fell in love with and married James Barilla, and raised three children.

But her proudest accomplishments are, by far, her three grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole and Matthew. She played a big part in their upbringing and took great pride in their accomplishments. She attended every recital, school event and performance, always clapping and cheering the loudest of everyone in the room.

Most of all, Lucy loved her family. She loved being an aunt, great-aunt, great-great aunt and godmother. Her happiest moments were spent with each family member, supporting them through both good and bad times.

Lucy was a great fan of Frank Sinatra. She liked going to concerts, Broadway plays, shopping and watching endless hours of Law & Order SVU and any other crime show. Lucy was known for her cooking skills, and her eggplant parmesan, zeppole, “gravy” and meatballs rivaled any restaurant.

Lucy was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Nancy D’Angio, and her siblings, Connie, Patsy, Joseph, Ralph, Thomas and Carl.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday, July 23rd, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North. A funeral liturgy will be held at Co-Cathedral of St. Roberts Bellarmine, Freehold on Wednesday, July 24th at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Forest Green Cemetery, Marlboro.
