Obituary of Thomas A. Vroman

Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Thomas Allison Vroman, 91, of Manalapan, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel. Thomas was born in Queens, New York on June 6, 1932. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Manalapan with his wife, Mary Campbell Vroman, and his young family in 1970. He worked as an executive in the shipping industry prior to retirement.

Thomas was a graduate of St. Francis College in Brooklyn. Thomas was a devout Roman Catholic whose faith inspired his life. He was an altar boy at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn and served Mass during World War II at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church in Spring Lake, where his great-uncle, Monsignor Thomas Urban Reilly, was the pastor.  He was a lector-commentator at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic church for many years.

Thomas was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant.

Thomas had many varied talents and interests. He was a voracious reader of books of any genre, but particularly of books about history and about World War II.  He was an expert gardener, who spent much time growing beautiful flowers and plants and, for many years, cultivating vegetables in his large garden. Thomas was a model train aficionado, who built and enjoyed an impressive model train display, which included a Lionel train set which belonged to him as a child. Thomas enjoyed oil painting and auto repair. Most of all, Thomas was a devoted, kind and loving father and husband, who is dearly missed by his family.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Frieda Vroman, brother Charles Vroman and sister Mary Campbell.  He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Vroman, sons Thomas Vroman (Beth) and Kevin Vroman (Luisa), daughter Ann Marie Vroman, sister Elizabeth Lehman, grandchildren Kevin, Kaitlyn, Thomas and Patrick, great-granddaughter Gianna and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, May 16th, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North.  A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, NJ on Friday, May 17th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery in Manalapan, NJ.
