Obituary of Audrey Harriet Jasper
Audrey H. Jasper passed away on May, 6 2024 at Princeton Hospital at 98 years of age following a stroke. She was born September 20, 1925 to Eli Jasper and Elsie Clara Baynton who emigrated as single teenagers from Kidderminster, England in the early 1900s. Audrey resided in Freehold, NJ her entire life prior to relocating in 2002 to Meadow Lakes Senior Living Community in East Windsor, NJ.
Audrey was quite proud that she graduated from Rutgers University. Following her early career working at McGraw-Hill, she joined Bell Laboratories and had a lengthy career as an executive assistant at Murray Hill and Holmdel prior to retiring from Bell Labs in the late 1980s. The majority of her time at the labs was working as part of the team that enabled cellular telephone networks as we know them today.
She was a not-so-secret admirer of Prince Charles, now King Charles III. Well into her senior years she was an avid and adventurous traveler including a backpacking trip on the island of Borneo. She frequently visited family and friends in the U.K. and particularly enjoyed the Cotswolds region of England. A voracious reader, Audrey also included croquet, playing bridge and singing in the church choir as favorite pastimes. She loved dogs and for much of her life had a Collie.
Audrey is survived by many cousins in the U.K. and U.S. including Glen (Diane) Madden, Sharon (Ken) McCauley, Maureen (William “Pete”) Petersen, Jan (John) McDonough, Linda Scanlon, Gary (Margie) Madden all of New Jersey. We will all miss her wit, sense of humor and nurturing presence. She enjoyed a long life well-lived.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, May 10th from 10:30AM to 12:30PM at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on the same day at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
