Obituary of Preston Barry Deutsch

Please share a memory of Preston to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dr. Preston Barry Deutsch, 73, a resident of Manalapan for over 40 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Jersey Shore Medical Center. Preston was born in Irvington, New Jersey. Preston received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Seton Hall University, and went on to NY Chiropractic School, where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree. Prior to this he served as a medic in the National Guard Reserves.

Preston lived a simple and happy life. He was a true family man. Preston met his wife Karen in junior high and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Preston and Karen resided in Freehold before moving to Manalapan where they started their family & raised their children (Jason and Lauren).  He had a private Chiropractic Practice on Tennant Road in Manalapan for over 30 years. All his patients loved and respected him. He served as a board member on the Manalapan Board of Health for several years and was also a member of the Emergency Response Team in Manalapan for many years as well. He really enjoyed being a part of the community.

Preston had many interests. He loved his little red antique car, a Triumph Spitfire and listening to Botticelli and Pavarotti. He also enjoyed daily bike rides around the Manasquan Reservoir. But perhaps his greatest interest of all was spending time with his family and 4 beautiful grandchildren (Andrew “AJ”, Gabriella, Valentina, and Melania). They were his entire world! He loved taking them for walks in the “little red wagon”, He enjoyed vacationing with them at the Eden Resorts in Landcaster, PA, and he loved taking them on a yearly camping trip to Turkey Swamp Park. He always would say “It is a great day”, “I am lucky to be alive” and “I am the luckiest guy with such a beautiful family and a beautiful wife.” He really enjoyed the simple things. Preston also loved learning and could talk on any subject, as well as fix and build anything. His hands were “golden.”

Preston was predeceased by his father Maurice Deutsch. He is survived by his mother Shirley Deutsch of Roselle Park NJ; wife Karen Deutsch of 50 years, of Manalapan NJ; son Jason Deutsch and daughter-in-law Amanda Deutsch, of Howell NJ; daughter Lauren Sclafani and son-in-law Michael Sclafani of Howell NJ; sister Terry and her husband Andy Porter of Union NJ; Nephews Michael and Jeremy Mattia; his 4 beautiful grandchildren, Andrew “AJ”, Gabriella, Valentina, and Melania, his best friend from childhood, and a few other cherished friends.

Preston will be so deeply missed by all. He was really one of a kind. The most selfless individual who would do anything for his family and friends. His legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren. He’d always end the night with saying “have a happy” … thus may “Papa Preston” rest in eternal and “happy” peace.
