Obituary of Gloria Rose Katz
Gloria Rose Katz, 81, of Freehold passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at CentraState Medical Center. Gloria was born in New York City. As a young child, her family moved from Manhattan to Williamsburg, Brooklyn and then to Jamaica, Queens where she was raised.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband Lawrence Katz; sons Jay Katz of Brooklyn, NY, Michael Katz (Carla) of Charlotte, NC and Jonathan Katz of Elmwood Park, NJ. Gloria was predeceased by her parents Ben and Clara Levin, sister Harriet Posner and brother-in-law Elliott Posner.
Gloria met her husband Larry while she was a student at Queens College and he was a student at Hunter (now Lehman) College. Upon marriage they settled in Kew Gardens, Queens before moving to Freehold, NJ soon after the birth of their second child. Prior to her retirement, Gloria was employed as a teacher. Gloria began her career as a NYC Public School teacher. After the birth of her second child, Gloria became a full-time stay-at-home mom. Once her youngest child was in middle school, Gloria returned to teaching. She was employed by the Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission (MOESC) and taught remedial education in numerous private schools, most notably St. Veronica School in Howell. For many years, Gloria was an active member of Hadassah and devoted considerable time to their annual holiday gift-wrapping fundraiser at Freehold Raceway Mall. Gloria was an avid reader of fiction and a classically-trained pianist.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Freeman Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 N, Manalapan. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, January 30th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery, 374 Highway 79, Marlboro.
