Please share a memory of Anita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anita M. Yeager, 98 of Freehold, NJ (formerly Somerset, NJ and Jersey City, NJ) passed peacefully on December 28, 2023 at Mattison Crossing Freehold, NJ.

Anita was born on April 7, 1925 in Pittson, Pa. to Gertrude and William Powell, sister to Margaret A. McManus (nee Powell). She got married on January 31, 1948 to her late husband John W. Yeager. Born in the Roaring Twenties, raised during the Great Depression, lived through World War II, the attack on Pearl Harbor, D-Day, the Korean War, the launch of the first US Satellite, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Assassination of John F. Kennedy, the Assassination of Martin Luther King, witnessed the end of segregation, the first person to step foot on the moon, the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean, the landmark Roe V. Wade decision, the Vietnam War, the invention of the Internet, and the list goes on and on of a life well lived.

Anita had a long career with the US Government, first working for the Hudson County Draft Board, and later at the Military Ocean Terminal Naval Base in Bayonne, NJ.

Along with her husband John she enjoyed her annual trip to Miami Beach, and as a rite of passage took her niece and nephews along as they each graduated from elementary school. She also enjoyed sewing, and showing her Boxer, Gal and her Poodle, Pierre at dog shows.

A devote catholic, she was a long-time parishioner of St. Paul of the Cross Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City, and later St. Mathias Catholic Church in Somerset, NJ.

She will be sadly missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Although, Anita and her late husband John did not have children of their own, she showered her niece and nephews, as well as the grand-nieces & nephew with the love of a mother and trusted friend.

She leaves behind her sister, Margaret A. McManus, her niece Janice Regan (Brian), nephews James McManus (Donna) and John McManus as well as her beloved grand-nieces Caitlin Singh (Roy), Taryn McManus, Nadine McManus, and her grand-nephew Liam Regan.

Her family invites you to join them to honor her life at her funeral mass at 11:00am, Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 10 Franklin Place North Arlington, NJ 07031 (201)-997-0700 on Saturday January 6, 2023, interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ 07031 (201)-997-1900.
