Obituary of Cornelius Hopkins

Cornelius Hopkins, 87, of Freehold, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Applewood Estates. Neil (as he was known to all) was born and raised in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York and moved to Freehold over 35 years ago. Neil was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He was a parishioner and active member of the community of St. Rose of Lima Church for many years. Neil served his country proudly in the Marines and went on to become VP for Chase Manhattan Bank for over 30 years. Neil loved spending time with his family and being active outdoors as much as possible. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the board of Heather Ridge 2 in Raintree.

Cornelius was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Hopkins, and brothers, Fr. Michael Hopkins and Vincent O’Gara. He is survived by his loving wife, Henrietta Hopkins; children Carole Anne Rocco (Richard) of Freehold, NJ and Kathleen Anne Hopkins of Metuchen, NJ; sister Sheliagh Dillon; and grandchildren Angela, Matthew, Christopher (Paige) and Jonathon Rocco.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday, December 27^th from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold. A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church on Thursday, December 28^th at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro.
