Obituary of Ruth Marie Schaefer

Ruth Schaefer passed away November 21, 2023.  Ruth was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1929 and grew up in Coney Island with her parents, Maurice and Tilly Rubin, and her brother, David.  While vacationing in the Catskills in 1954, she met and fell in love with Arthur Schaefer – after reminding him that his socks were falling down – and they married the following year.  Ruth and Art had three children, Will, Rob, and Judy and moved to Manalapan, NJ in 1963 where they still live.  Ruth was passionate about many things, including her family, caring for her disabled daughter Judy, and living and following Jewish traditions and principles.  Ruth graduated from Lincoln High School in Brooklyn; many years later after raising her family went back to college, she attended Hebrew school and was Bat Mitzvahed after her kids left for college.  Ruth will be remembered as a lively spirit with varied interests by her family – Art, her husband of 68 years; her two sons, Will and Rob; daughters-in-law, Linda and Susan; and grandchildren, Ralph, Fred, George, Nathan, and Jake; and loving caregivers, Maria Borges, Pattie Asare-Morris, and Evelyn Boateng.
