Obituary of Dorothy Cafaro
Dorothy Cafaro, 92, of Marlboro, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was born in Baden, Pennsylvania. Dorothy lived for many years on Staten Island including Concord, Dongan Hills, Annadale and Great Kills before moving to Marlboro, New Jersey.
Dorothy loved the arts, especially music and reading. In all the places she called home, there was always music playing. She loved to go to the library, speak to the librarians and find out what was new and asked what they liked. Dorothy could hold a conversation with anyone. She would always listen, be engaged in what you were speaking about and ask questions if she wasn’t sure. When you walked away, you knew you were just in a conversation and not the same person because of it.
While her boys attended school, Dorothy was PTA president at PS 36 in Annadale. During the years of raising her children, Dorothy also worked. She was employed at Seduttos Ice Cream Co. on Staten Island, and in New Jersey she worked for Culligan Water. Dorothy was a member of YMCA while living in New Jersey and created a new circle of friends. Besides working on their health, they enjoyed going for lunches and playing Mahjong and Rubi Cube. Traveling was a passion of Dorothy’s. Among her many journeys with friends, she discovered Italy, Greece and the Caribbean. Dorothy also loved the beach. Locally Dorothy loved to shop. There was nobody who found quality and a sale in one like Dorothy. She always took pride in presenting herself with a simple elegance. She also loved to decorate her home beautifully.
What Dorothy loved most was family. Her happiest times were at large family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Dorothy was predeceased by her father and mother Frank and Viola Costantino; sister Frances Clark and son-in-law Vincent Cella. She is survived by her daughter Suzan Cella and sons Douglas Fraser, James (Mary Ellen) Cafaro and Michael (Camille) Cafaro; nephews Joseph Clark (Lisa) and Robert Clark; grandchildren Alexandria, Samantha, James, Alison, Justin and Brielle and great grandchild Vincent.
