Obituary of Carrol Jean Elscoe

Please share a memory of Carrol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Born on the emerald island of Monsterrat in the Eastern Caribbean, on September 20, 1949, Carrol Jean became the 13th child of Pastor Nathaniel Gooding and his wife Nellie.  They were ardent members of the Seventh-day Adventist church and gave their daughter a sound Seventh-day Adventist heritage.  She attended Caribbean Union College in Port of Spain, Trinidad; Oakwood Adventist Academy in Huntsville, Alabama; and Brooklyn Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. These educational institutions prepared her well to serve as a nurse in the geriatric community at Clove Lake Nursing Home, Staten Island, New York; and the pediatric community at the University Hospital of Medical and Dental, Newark, New Jersey.

On August 17, 1975, she married Samuel R. Elscoe of Aruba, Netherlands Antilles. They had two children: Samuel R Elscoe Jr and Christopher R. Elscoe. She and her husband were dedicated members of the New York Antillean Association. Carrol Jean was a loving, attentive and caring mother. She had a close bond with her children and nourished them with her gentle, yet firm hand. Carrol Jean was also a dutiful wife and partner. She and Samuel enjoyed forty-eight productive and happy years of marriage. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends, dancing, music, the culinary arts, and a good laugh. She accepted others with an open heart. Although she was quiet, she was very engaging.

She is preceded in death by her son Samuel R. Elscoe Jr.  She leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, Samuel R. Elscoe, son Christopher R. Elscoe, sisters Ruth Reid-Gooding, Pearl McDonald-Forbes, Myrtle Johnston-Gooding, Lucy Gooding-Sandy, brother Dr Earl Gooding, numerous close relations and friends. May She Rest in Peace.
