Obituary of Edward L. White

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Edward L. White, 100, residing in Freehold, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2023.  Ed was born in Marinette, Wisconsin and spent most of his years in New York City.  At a young age, he was awarded a full art scholarship to the Pratt Institute. Later, he studied Engineering in college before enlisting with his brothers in World War II.  He served as First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps 6th Emergency Rescue Squadron as an Advanced Navigator. He participated in many rescue missions on Japanese occupied islands risking his life to rescue downed pilots and their crews.

After WWII he worked with his family in the NYC garment district and became a sought-after textile mill mechanic and designer. He lived a bachelor's life until the age of 50 when he decided to start a family. Ed enjoyed a good game of cards and betting on the horses. Whether he was at the casino, or the track, and definitely in life, he was known for beating the odds. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories and sharing a good laugh with everyone. Ed was a kind, generous person, a good listener and a stubborn son-of-a-gun. His charm and wit won over everyone who knew him.  Among other things, Ed was known for his intelligence, endless curiosity, imagination, determination and ability to solve problems...and of course, his sweet-tooth and famous late-night steaks.

Edward was predeceased by his parents, David and Rose (Jacobs) White. He is survived by his daughter, Elanor (Michael) White Conde and son, Evan (Mandie) White and three grandchildren Casey, Evan and Jake.

Friends and family are invited to attend his memorial gathering on April 26th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North.
