Obituary of Gerald W Hull, Jr.
Gerald (Gerry) W. Hull, born on March 18, 1934 in Champaigne, IL., released the binds that held him on earth on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at home at Applewood in Freehold, NJ.
Gerry was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of nearly 70 years Mary Anne Hull nee Clarke. He is survived by his daughters Mary Clare Vogt (spouse Robert Vogt) of Stanton, VA and Joan Marie Hull (spouse Lisa Leopold-Hull) of Freehold, NJ; and grandchildren Michael Vogt (spouse Eleanor Judge Vogt) of Benton, PA, Kevin Vogt of Stuart’s Draft, VA, Hunter Leopold-Hull and Cassidy Leopold-Hull, both of Freehold, NJ; and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Rosemary, Daniel and Harper Vogt, and all the friends who loved him.
Gerry attended the University of Illinois and worked as a wet chemist, spectroscopist and metallurgist most recently at Raritan River Steel in Perth Amboy retiring in 1999. Although he lived on many Army bases growing up, and in Niagara Falls, NY Chelmsford, MA and NJ with his family, he always considered Martinsville, IN, where he spent summers with his grandparents as a child, as his home.
Gerry was one of the most gentle, humble, wise and hardworking men who kept his dry sense of humor until the very end, all with a twinkle in his eye to keep us on our toes, especially his loving caregivers Ahmed and Mariah. Gerry was one of the original naturalists enjoying camping, sailing, biking, as well as reading, chess, woodworking and painting. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A private memorial will be held by the family at Freeman Funeral Home. To donate in Gerry’s memory please consider The Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460, which was dear to his heart.
