Obituary of Antoinette Costagliola

Please share a memory of Antoinette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Antoinette Costagliola, 94, of Englishtown, NJ (Marlboro Township) passed away at home on December 12, 2022. She was a resident of Marlboro Greens for 20 years and was an active participant in the Singles Club.

Antoinette was born 08/12/1928 in Brooklyn, New York to Michael and Rose Costagliola.  She spent her early years on Cheever Place, Carol Gardens, surrounded by a close-knit, loving Italian family. She attended PS. 29 and John Harrigan JHS and graduated in 1943.

She then attended Central High School of Needle Trades, NY, NY, graduating in 1946 with the intention of working as a seamstress in the garment industry. Most of the students at Central High School of Needle Trades, were immigrants, or the children of immigrants, who were trying to make new lives for themselves in a new country. After graduation and some years sewing under-garments, she pursued a career as a keypunch operator and worked for New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation until her retirement in 1991.

She moved to New Jersey in 2002, to be near family and enjoyed an active life at Marlboro Greens in Englishtown, participating in the club activities there and also as an active parishioner at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Manalapan, NJ, and member of their Leisure Club.

Although she never married or had children, Antoinette had a fulfilling life. She had many hobbies-sewing (mostly dresses for her 4 nieces and hemming clothes for family members), baking, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and light gambling (playing the NY and NJ State lottery and the slot machines at Atlantic City), and traveling to places near and far. While she never did get her driver’s license, she managed to get to many places!

She was a wonderful and loving aunt. She enjoyed sharing her love of the theater in New York City and her many other passions with her one nephew and five nieces. She loved keeping the family traditions alive- making, struffoli,  cassatelle and her famous tiny tea tarts. She was a helpful sister to her siblings and attentive daughter to her parents. She loved playing games and appreciated a good joke. Everyone remembers her hearty laugh!

She is pre-deceased by her parents, her sister, Lucy Ciccone and sister’s husband, Donato Ciccone and her niece, Patricia Costa Kim. Surviving is her brother Pasquale Costagliola, and his wife Constance, nephew, Rev. Joseph Ciccone CSP, and nieces Loretta (Ciccone) Marangiello, Barbara (Ciccone) Baron, Caryn (Costagliola) LaFerlita, and Regina (Costagliola) Kreimer and 10 great nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, December 15th, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan.  A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church on Friday, December 16th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at The Green - Wood Cemetery. To leave a condolence or find directions, visit www.freemanfuneralhomes.com.
