Obituary of Mary Lee Wirth

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary passed away at her home on November 24th, 2022.

After graduating from Red Bank Catholic she attended Monmouth University where she studied Art Education.

Mary married the love of her life Robert “Andy” Wirth, in 1976. The couple met while working at Bell Labs, and Mary just knew he was special. Mary was very proud of being referred to as a “lovely couple” by people they met. Mary and Andy did everything together, filling their lives with travel and adventure.

Their greatest undertaking was raising their two daughters Jessica and Katelyn. Mary raised her girls to be strong, kind, and gentle women and she taught them what it meant to be a mother.

Mary will always be remembered for her artistic talent, she made us say “WOW!” with her beautiful landscapes, decorative glasses, and calligraphy for all occasions. She shared her skills as art teacher at Indian Hill School and later at St. John Vianney High School.  But the job title she enjoyed most was “Gram,” spending time with (and spoiling) her three grandchildren: Camden, Theodore, and Sutton.

She had a great eye for a deal, and always enjoyed a good thrift store find. She drew inspiration from the world around her and the things she loved, applying her limitless creativity to everything she touched. She always loved a good glass of wine (in one of her hand decorated glasses of course), being the life of the party, and the comfort of her many pets.

Mary is survived by her husband Andy, sister Elyse Smock, two daughters Jessica (Wirth) Barbieri and Katelyn Ellis-Wirth, three grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
