Birky was my friend and fraternity brother at Upsala College. Birky was truly LARGER THAN LIFE but not only because of his sheer size but the whole person- pitcher, student, friend and Brother. Whether on the Upsala baseball diamond, Henry NG Memorial Field or the Upsala Pub bellying up for a pint, Birky was a fierce competitor who wanted to win. His vision always saw the greater good and was a steady and positive influence on all of the Brothers of Pi Delta Phi. I also remember that smile that ALWAYS seemed to be on his face and light up the room. While Rich is leaving us too soon, I'll always take a piece of his "Glass Half Full" approach to life with me.
