Obituary of Robert George Silvestri
Robert G. Silvestri of Marlboro, N.J., passed away on Friday, October 1st, at the age of 75. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., to Felix and Marjorie Silvestri in 1946. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debra Silvestri; three children, Kevin, Gregg, and Lindsay; son-in-law Jordan Goldberg; two grandchildren, Sienna and Michael Goldberg; brother Kenneth Silvestri and sister Diane Thompkins (Silvestri).
He was a graduate of Penn State University and received his master’s from St. John’s University.
He was a history teacher for 43 years before retiring in 2012. He spent 32 of those years at Marlboro High School after starting his career on Staten Island at St. Rita’s and Moore’s Catholic High School.
His teaching extended beyond the classroom as he coached girls and boys basketball, softball, and girls golf in his career. He was the senior class moderator for many years at Marlboro High School and ran the ski club at Moore Catholic.
His hobbies included traveling, reading, painting, playing golf, skiing, home projects, and woodworking. He took his greatest joy in being a husband, father, and grandfather. He spent his retirement traveling to his favorite place Ogunquit, Maine, and babysitting his grandchildren and family dog Luna.
He believed that “time is the most precious thing you have, use it well.”
Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, October 7th, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm, at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Gabriel's MAIN Church on Friday, October 8th, at 11:00am. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery and Mausoleum.
