Dom was born in Manhattan on October 30, 1920 to the late Maria Claps Perrini and Francesco Perrini of Fasano, Italy near Bari. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years Yolanda Molino Perrini.
Dominick’s memory will be cherished by his four children and their spouses: Frank and JoAnn Perrini of Monroe Township, New Jersey; Christine and Tom Holt of Kearny, New Jersey; Donald and Joanne Perrini of Atlanta, Georgia: and Lisa and Daniel Manochio of Marlboro, New Jersey; and his loving sister-in-law Anna Minieri.
Nine Grandchildren: Frank (Lauren) Perrini, James (Jennifer) Perrini; Michael Holt (Thelma); David (Cristina) Holt; Danielle Perrini and Joseph (Angela) Perrini; Daniel Manochio (Brianna) Mathew Manochio, Samantha Manochio (Greg).
Four Great Grandchildren: Gabriella Perrini; Logan Manochio; Tristan and Nico Holt.
Dom was predeceased by seven loving siblings: Frank, Vito Donato (Bill), Carmella DeBellas, Anna Cavalo, Marcello (Bob), twin sister Angela Fiore, and Yolanda Venditti.
Dom grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and graduated from New Utrecht High School. He worked in Dept. MI of “The Linotype Post,” a newsletter issued monthly by Mergenthaler Linotype Memorial Post of the American Legion in Brooklyn. He joined the United States Army in 1942, trained at Camp Shelby, Mississippi and was assigned to the 31st (Dixie) Division troops Signal Corps on Mindanao Island in the Philippines as a radio operator. After serving his country in World War II, he joined the New York City Fire Department in January, 1950, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1983. He married his beautiful wife Yolanda in 1947 starting their life together in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1956, they relocated to Staten Island, N.Y., where they raised their four children. In 1986, Dom and Yola moved to Marlboro, New Jersey and enjoyed the many activities offered by the Greenbriar Adult Community.
Dom’s life was filled with many joys, first and foremost, was his love of family. He treasured the times spent with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed summers in Saugerties, New York; working in his son’s jewelry store; puttering around his house and well-stocked garage; trimming his shrubs; traveling with the Greenbriar community, especially the monthly bus trips to Atlantic City; playing tennis; walking the development, and in his final days sitting in front of his house waving to all who passed by.
Everyone who knew Dom was inspired by his work ethic, his attention to detail, his indescribable humor, his love of conversation, his silly catchphrases, his impeccable manner of dressing, and most of all his devotion to family. He maintained a meticulous home, and took pride in his landscaping ability. Remarkably, Dom lived independently up until his 100th birthday. He was honored throughout the month of October 2020, with a parade of Corvettes driven by members of the Richmond County Corvette Club, Marlboro Police cars, and a Firetruck honoring his 33 years of service in the NYC Fire Department. He even became a TV star on the NBC Today Show when his picture was displayed on the Smucker’s jelly jar. His Greenbriar community honored him with stories and pictures in their monthly magazine “The Grapevine.” Dom lived a full and amazing 100 years. He was an inspiration to all who knew him, especially his family.
Dom will be missed terribly by all his family, including his devoted sister-in-law Anna Molino Minieri, his Perrini and Molino nieces and nephews, his Greenbriar friends, and his devoted and amazing care-taker Jane Manochio Corella. Dom will be in our hearts forever.
Dom’s children would like to thank all of our Dad’s caretakers from The Visiting Nurse Association Health Group of New Jersey and the VNA Hospice Team, who so faithfully and compassionately cared for our Dad over the past several years and during his final days. A special thank you to VNA Nurses, Barbara, Emily, Riya and Ken who were rays of sunshine in our Dad’s life. Your outstanding and compassionate care given to our Dad is so deeply appreciated by all of us. We took comfort in knowing that our Dad was in such good hands.
