Obituary of Howard Kahan
Howard “Howie” Kahan beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, of Freehold, NJ passed away on May 4, 2021 at the age of 86. Howard was born on May 31, 1934 in New York City and grew up in New Rochelle, New York. He attended the University of Miami. He married Evelyn Krein of Queens, New York on June 7, 1959. Howard and Evelyn raised three daughters, Susan, Diane and Arlene. They lived in Queens, New York until 1970 and then moved to Flanders, New Jersey. Howie worked for the family business, Kane Watch Company, after that Howard worked in sales as a liquor salesman then he went to Colony Brokerage as a food broker salesman from 1968 and retired from there in 1997. In 2003, Howard and Evelyn moved to Freehold, New Jersey.
Howie was a family man and was happiest being around his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great granddaughter. He was an avid reader, he enjoyed reading fiction, non-fiction and two newspapers per day. Howard had a passion for exercise, particularly jogging. Howie enjoyed all sports but the Mets held a special place in Howie’s heart. Howie was a people person; funny, warm and personable, he loved people and people loved him. He had the gift of gab, when he told a story, people were spellbound!
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Estelle. Howard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Krein Kahan; his three daughters, Susan Ryan (Peter), Diane Kahan Feller (Fritz), Arlene Brady Cleverley (Mark); six grandchildren, Morgan Ryan Angle (Sid), Kevin Ryan, Daniel Ryan, Kaitlyn Brady, Mathew Brady, Lucas Kahan; one great granddaughter, Iris Ryan Angle.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at a later date this summer.
