Obituary of Joan McGrath

Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joan Claire McGrath (Myslenski) loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and neighbor passed away at the age of 82 on March 30, 2021.  She was born on March 31, 1938 in Newark, NJ.  She grew up in Harrison, Kearny and North Arlington.  She was the daughter of the late John and Clara Myslenski.  She is survived by her brother Sonny Myslenski and predeceased by her sister, Helene (Tootsie) Dugan and brother, Dennis Myslenski.

Joan was a cafeteria cashier at Middlesex County College for over 10 years.  She was married to the love of her life, John (Mickey) McGrath for 62 years before his death in 2018.  They lived in Newark for five years before moving to Port Reading in 1963 and then their final move to Manalapan in 1993.  Together they raised 5 children, John Jr. (Dawna) of PA, Pat (Katie) of Parlin, Kit (Bryan) of Hazlet,      Midge (Bill) of Manalapan and Joe (Dina) of Port Reading.  Also surviving are her grandchildren Melanie, Marissa, Shannon, Shane, Casie, Amanda, Joe and Joe Jr. Great grandchildren, Erin, Caitlyn, Brayden, Kayden, Riley, Natalie, Paige and Max.

Joan was a “Lifetime” movie buff and enjoyed watching her movies with a few sweets and a cup of coffee.  Her most cherished time was spent with family at summer BBQ’s, birthday parties, family celebrations and she especially loved the Christmas holiday season!  Joan loved a good laugh and kept everyone around her laughing as she was unknowingly the funniest person in the room!
