Obituary of Claudette M Cowie

Claudette M Cowie, 83, of Freehold Township, died on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Applewood Estates, Freehold. Born in 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, she resided in Freehold Township for over 50 years. Before retiring Claudette worked as a Registered Nurse for Prospect Heights Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital in New York, and Fitkin Hospital in Neptune. She was an active fundraiser and the first head nurse for the Maternal Health unit at Freehold Area Hospital when it opened. She then completed her Bachelor’s Degree and went on to a 25-year career as the school nurse at Howell High School.  She was a founding member of the Greater Freehold Registered Nurses Association, and served as a member of the Freehold Township Board of Health for 40 years. She was a communicant at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold and after her retirement she served as a member and administrator of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for more than 12 years.

Claudette was predeceased by her loving husband Donald and her grandson Austin Fischer. She is survived by her three daughters and their partners, Eileen Allen and James Gallagher of Freehold, Marie and Ken Speers of Yardley, PA and Beth and Glenn Fischer of Washington, NJ, 8 loving grandchildren, Jack, Matt and Maggie, Christine and Kelly, and Kelsey and Douglas, and 2 great grandchildren Allison and Charlie.

Friends and family are invited to visit Sunday from 2pm to 5pm at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Freehold. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
