Obituary of Mykola Zinkevych
Mykola Zinkevych of Manalapan, NJ, has peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the age of 72 after a battle with lung cancer.
Mykola was born in Losyatyn, Ukraine on April 21, 1948. Growing up, Mykola always dreamed of flying, and after graduating from high school he worked hard to get accepted to an admirable flight school in Saratov, USSR. He became a civil aviation pilot and continued his studies to become a helicopter pilot.
In 1979, a tragedy took place... During one of his routine flights, helicopter engines malfunctioned, bringing it down on trees and snow. Mykola was lucky to survive, but due to the serious injuries from the accident he could no longer continue doing what he loved the most.
Some years later, in 1998, Mykola decided to seek a better life for himself and his family in the United States. This new transition brought its challenges, but after some years, the whole family finally re-united.
In November of 2019, Mykola had been diagnosed with a heart failure and went through a very complicated surgery. About a year after recovery, Mykola was diagnosed with a stage 4 lung cancer, which, unfortunately, took its aggressive course and has spread to other organs. The fight lasted for over 4 months.
At the time of his passing, Mykola was surrounded by his loving wife Luba, son Sergiy, daughter Yuliya, son-in-law Yourii and daughter-in-law Liliya. He dearly loved all of his grandchildren, Yuliya (26), Kateryna (15), Daniel (13), Diana (10) and Anna (8) who all brought a lot of joy into his life.
Some of Mykola's hobbies were mushroom picking (in Ukraine), playing backgammon with his wife and children, and he especially loved working in his garden and was very proud of it.
Our husband, father and grandfather, you will forever be in our hearts... Rest in peace and may God be with you...
Your loving family
