As I read these tributes to Ralph I realize(and this should have been obvious to me) that while the bond that we had together was very special, it was far from unique. He seems to have had that bond with everyone he touched. He was truly everyone’s favorite uncle, even if you were not related to him.
When I heard the news the other day it took a while for it to hit me. We rationalize, we say 86 years is a good long life-especially a life that has been so well lived- and then I cried like a baby.
Ralph was so much more than a colleague and a friend. He was a confidante and my cheerleader. He was a mentor and gave great counsel. He was just so much, much more.
When I walked into Prudential almost 32 years ago some of the older agents wouldn’t even acknowledge the new kid because most didn’t last 6 months. This was not Ralph’s philosophy. We became fast friends. We went on conferences together, had huge fight night parties(during the Tyson era), and many great meals(so many great meals). For the past 32 years I have been lucky to have such a friend.
So as time eventually always does, a friendship becomes a memory. This memory is also a blueprint. A blueprint for how to be a better husband, better father, a better friend and overall how to be a better man. On my very best days I follow this blueprint. I aspire to follow it more often. Very few have had more of an impact on me than this gentle gentleman. Abraham Lincoln hoped to be guided by his better angels-Ralph is now one of mine. I loved this man and will miss him always. I am so much better for having known him.

There are too many special memories to choose from. My dad was my protector and my champion, my mentor and my hero, my friend and my father. The depth of my grief is matched only by my gratitude for having had such a wonderful man to guide me through life and love me so unconditionally. I love you dad, and look forward to the time when we can be together again.

My dear and beloved father-in-law,
You were "Dad" and you filled those big shoes like no other mortal could.
Forever I will be in awe of your kindness, generosity and compassion for all who crossed your path. You were so very funny, silly and smart. But most of all I admired your impeccable honor and trustworthiness, a rare quality few embody. Your superpower was undoubtedly your loving heart that served his family first and foremost. You took care of each and every one of us and we all knew that we were safe because we always had you to turn to if ever we needed it.
I just realized you had daughters, a son, brothers, many loving cousins, aunts and uncles, an amazing wife, tons of friends, but only I had the distinction of being your one and only daughter in law. That may very well have been my greatest and proudest title.
I love you, and I know I will see you again soon. In the mean time keep sending me signs to assure I always do what is right; serving as you did, in the best interest of others.
Love you. Saray

Dearest cousin Ralph
You are gonna be missed so much by your family ofcourse, friends and our cousins. We all looked up to you as to what a gentleman was loving husband, father, brother and for me an example of a caring devoted cousin. I will miss hearing the stories of our grandparents and Aunts n Uncles some of which I never heard before. You never failed to call on every holiday and we would discuss and compare our menu and family traditions. One of which was your delicious Easter bread which i have never managed to get quite like yours. Your jokes were told so well that I could never match the style you delivered when I tried to repeat them. You deserved every happiness in life and never bragged when you received them. That was not your style. You were so proud of your family and grandchildren and your loving wife Fran who you teased and called Miss Arista. You’ve always had a big kind heart and would go the extra mile especially for your loving brother Richard whom you took such good care of. God bless you for that and I know you will be rewarded for that in heaven. My husband will miss your talks about the Giants and Rangers and how you tried to tease him about who got traded when they really didnt. Rest in peace now my beloved cousin and say hi to everyone for me. Love always

Uncle Ralph I am just heartbroken over your loss. You will truly be missed. I have so many great memories of you I don't even know where to begin, so I'll start with the most recent. Coming back after 2 years ago to finally get together and visit was magical. Your dinner that you slaved over for us was the most delicious food I have ever had in my life. It looked like you catered a wedding. It was so great being with my two favorite uncles and aunt and my cousins again. It was like NO time at all had gone by...I just can't believe that not ONE of us took any pictures from that day! We were having way too much fun just living in the moment I guess. All the great times when I was a kid going over your house for all kinds of occasions, but my favorite was Christmas Eve. Just being with you and all the family and how special you always made everyone feel! You were such a special man. Such a loving husband, father, grandfather and of course UNCLE! Please make sure you give Uncle Richard, Grandma and Grandpa a BIG kiss for me! Until we meet again. I love you Uncle Ralph!

My dearest Cousin Ralphie. How can it be? God now has another special angel. You will be celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day , the very day I lost my special angel. I pray your paths will meet very soon. I loved you so much and will miss you forever. Love, Cousin Linda

Uncle Ralph, I will always remember how after we moved to Az, and then came back to visit a few years later, you pulled up to the curb, and were so excited to see us that you jumped out of the car without putting it in park, such a funny and yet heartwarming scene, it made me feel good that you had missed us that much. That was 25 years ago, andI can still see see getting out and the car still moving. I will also never forget how you and Uncle Richard, and even Vinny would, as you say, bust my chops back when I first started dating Gina, I hated it then, but now do the same to my kids and their spouses. I am so happy we were able to make that trip two years ago, you set out a feast for us, and we had such a great time, not one of us remembered to even take a picture or two, so sorry we didnt. Thanks for so many great memories, will miss both you and Uncle Richard, love you! Gary

This has to be one of my favorite pictures of my grandparents. Poppy was Tiny Tim and Nana was a bunny. We’re all going to miss you so much, Poppy. You were so many things, a family man, the best chef, and a comedian were a few special qualities. You loved your family and loved cooking for us. You always loved getting your hands on a new gadget- whatever that may be, whether it was the peanut butter machine you used once or the ice cream maker that made ice cream from fruit (that I naturally own now). You had a way with words whether it was going back and forth with mom with puns or eloquently telling a long winded joke without fumbling at all (me or my dad could never). I could only be so lucky to have a relationship or marriage like yours and nanas’. You two cracked me up with how you teased each other constantly and I always will have your voices stuck in my head hearing you call out her name, “FRAN!”.. “WHAT IS IT RALPH??”...I remember only a couple years ago I don’t think you realized I was in the kitchen, but while nana was cooking you held on to her waist and I witnessed you grabbing her butt . And let me tell you, if I don’t have someone grabbing my butt when we’re in our 80’s and teasing me everyday then I don’t want it. You two loved each other so much and it showed. You were the glue that brought the whole family together. Everyone who ran into you adored you. If you ever found out that someone enjoyed a particular dish or particular type of meal, you’d make sure to bring it to them. I remember, I used to love going to the Italian deli in Brooklyn Coluucio’s for their Flott tuna fish and you got such a kick out of it, you’d bring me tons of cans of Flott. You always made everyone feel welcome and everyone had a seat at your table. Thank you for visiting me the other night in my dreams, I love you, Poppy, rest easy now. We all loved you very much and will take good care of nana. Say hi to Unc.

Denise and I cannot express the sense of loss we feel having lost our dear friend. My morning will not be the same without getting his phone calls at around 7:10am every day. We both listened to each other’s terrible jokes and laughed hysterically like two school children. Our calls lasted anywhere from 10 minutes to one hour and in that time we solved the worlds problems. Our five grandchildren remembered their “Ralphie Baby” today and memorialized his generosity and engaging smiling face.
Ralph will never be our “was our friend”. He will forever be “is our friend”.
We have loved him for the 14 years we have been fortunate enough to know him and we will love him in his absence as well.
Ralph will be forever in our thoughts, forever in our hearts and forever in our prayers.
