Obituary of John 'Jack' Baggitt, Jr.
John “Jack” Baggitt, Jr., 58, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Princeton Hospital with his two sons by his side.
Jack was a lifelong and proud Freeholder; he’d remind you to look for “Baggitt” in a stained-glass window at St. Rose Church. After a childhood of trouble-making and athletics, he started working at the age of 13 for his lifelong mentor, harness driver Harold Kelly. The industry was Jack’s passion and purpose. “Hungry Jack” amassed nearly 20,000 starts, 2,700 wins, and $17,000,000 in purses.
He was predeceased by his parents, John J. Baggitt, Sr. and JoAnne Sadowsky Baggitt, both of whom he missed and loved dearly. He is survived by two sons, Jason and Jeffrey, sisters Jill Norton and Jeanne (Greg) Tornquist, mentee Joe Hanney, several nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.
Come say goodbye during calling hours this Sunday, February 14th from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jack's memory to Standardbred Retirement Foundation, PO Box 312, Millstone Twp. NJ 08535.
