Obituary of Evelyn May Menendez
Evelyn May Menendez, 96, of Manalapan, New Jersey (NJ) passed away on January 1st, 2021 in Freehold, NJ. Evelyn was born on October 26th, 1924 to Robert and Lena Applegate in Elizabeth, NJ. On April 17th, 1948, Mrs. Menendez married Philip Raphael Menendez.
Evelyn worked for 16 years as Secretary to the Dean of EOF at Rutgers University before retiring. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Freehold, NJ. She previously held the position of President of the Women’s Society at the church. Evelyn was instrumental in the founding of the Dorcas and Phoebe Women’s ministries for her church. A strong woman of God, Evelyn led all four of her children to know the Lord Jesus Christ through the persuasion of the Holy Spirit.
Evelyn is survived by her four daughters, Frances Long, Evelyn Bevan, Carol LeMunyon and Jan Mezey; son-in-law Walter LeMunyon; four granddaughters, Jennifer Oravsky, Heather Groce, Brooke Stempert and Adrienne Mezey; seven great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Evelyn is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased in death by her beloved husband Philip R. Menendez in 1992, parents Lena and Robert Applegate, her sisters Ruth Pezzulo, Mable Gaughan, Gertrude Hughes, and her brothers Robert and John Applegate; and son-in-law Bryant Mezey.
