Obituary of Alan Starrett

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that heaven has swept up one of the kindest, most generous people God has ever placed on this earth.  

Alan David Starrett was born in the Bronx on April 16,1949.  He grew up with a passion for life and his New York teams.  Actually if you knew anything about Alan, the kind of man he was… he did everything with passion.  Whether it was being your friend or fishing or telling a story or being a cheering fan, he was the best at it.   He truly created joy where ever he went.  His generosity knew no bounds.  He walked this earth with a smile and the best intentions in his heart.    If you knew Alan, you were never without a friend.  He was the kind of person you were always glad to see and he was genuinely glad to see you.  He could make the day a little brighter, always funnier and never without a crazy story… and he knew how to laugh at himself, too.    He truly will be missed by so many.  Certainly the Yankees and Rangers have lost part of their cheering section.

More than 30 years ago, Alan moved to Old Bridge, creating a life for himself there. While he was a man of many talents and jobs, his favorite was managing Village Car Wash in Long Branch.   He truly enjoyed the job and the people he worked with.  And you could tell that by the way he loved feeding them. It was just one way of showing the world how he cared.  

Alan leaves behind his dear brother Ronald Starrett and sister, Susan Swift.   He has carved a space in the hearts of many but his longtime friend Allan and forever fishing buddy Andre will miss him dearly.  Friends and members of the Raritan Valley Bassmasters will surely find more fish in the lake and have a few less fishing tales to tell.  And I, his longtime companion know in my heart that he is no longer suffering but miss him and selfishly would love to laugh with him just one more time.   Now we all have a guardian angel watching over us.
