Obituary of Benjamin P DeCarlo

Please share a memory of Benjamin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Benjamin DeCarlo, 93 of Marlboro, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Centra State Medical Center in Freehold, New Jersey.

Born on Friday, January 21, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, Benjamin was the son of the late Joseph and Carmela DeCarlo.

Benjamin was raised in Brooklyn. He honorably and bravely worked as a firefighter for 34 years in the FDNY, oftentimes mentoring rookie firefighters, as well as creating many friendships. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WW II. When Benjamin came out of the Army, he met Eleanor Carbone. He and Eleanor married on October 22, 1950; Benjamin passed away just days prior to their 70th wedding anniversary. The two lived in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and raised their family of 4 boys there. After retirement the couple spent much of their time going on cruises. Benjamin was a huge history buff, and in his spare time he enjoyed watching baseball (especially his favorite team the New York Yankees), reading many books and poetry, listening to music, and cooking. Although strong, rough, and tough, Benjamin was a caring, loving man with a good heart who will be missed by all those that loved him.

Benjamin is predeceased by his oldest son Stephen DeCarlo and survived by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Eleanor, by his loving children, Christopher DeCarlo, Daniel DeCarlo and his wife Linda, and John DeCarlo and his wife Carolanne, and by his cherished grandchildren, Christopher DeCarlo, Dana DeCarlo, John Matthew DeCarlo, and Deanna DeCarlo.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home located at 344 Route 9 North Manalapan, New Jersey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday October 24, 2020 at St. Thomas More Church located at 186 Gordons Corner Road Manalapan, New Jersey. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery on Sharrot Avenue in Staten Island, New York.
