Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary “Marie” Rigos, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2020. Marie was born on March 15, 1940 in Jersey City, N.J. to Charles and Esther Barbera. One of her early and fulfilling work experiences was in the Jersey City Public Schools as a special education paraprofessional. Later in her work career Marie was a toll collector for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority where she worked until she retired.  In 1999 Marie moved to Manalapan, N.J. to live with her daughter, son in law, and two granddaughters. There she spent her time enjoying her granddaughters’ early childhood and watching them grow into young ladies. Marie also spent much of her time giving back to her community.  She volunteered for many years in the 70’s and early 80’s as a Moderator for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) in Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Jersey City. Marie donated countless hours to raise funds to support CYO programs allowing hundreds of children the opportunity to pursue their love of competitive sports in a large athletic program under the Direction of the Reverend Lawrence J. Miller of Our Lady of Mercy Parish. Marie’s work focused on the Competitive Cheerleading Program allowing young girls to develop their athletic skills in a wholesome and competitive environment.

Marie is survived by her daughter Irene Baratta and son-in-law Joseph Baratta; and her two granddaughters Makenzie Marie Baratta and Jenna Jude Baratta. Marie is predeceased by her brother Dominick F. Barbera. She is survived by her sister-in-law Beverly; nephews Charles, Christopher, and Mark; and her niece Valerie. Marie also leaves behind her loyal and loving dogs Max, Bear, and Jax.
