Obituary of Richard Anthony Bovasso
Richard Bovasso, 73, of Somerset, NJ passed away at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, in New Brunswick on Thursday, September 17th 2020. Richard was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and was a resident of New Jersey for more than 40 years.
Richard dedicated his life to the pursuit of helping others. As a pharmacist, a Rescue Squad Volunteer and a medic in the US Army, Richard always selected professions that offered him the opportunity to help others.
Richard followed the same pursuit privately as well, always putting the needs of his wife and two children above his own. His focus was on what was best for his family. He never had a selfish thought and never wavered from his commitment to his family.
He was known for spoiling his five grandchildren, making them laugh and being a fun, goofy Pappa Rich. He embraced all of his extended family members too; cousins, Aunts/Uncles, nieces/nephews, in-laws; it didn’t matter to him. They were all his family and he made sure they all knew it.
As a friend, colleague and community member, Richard was known as someone always available to help. Whether as a mentor, a voice of reason or travel guide, Richard enjoyed sharing anecdotes about life, restaurant recommendations or to just chat about food. His advice and council was always trustworthy, pragmatic and sincere.
In return for his altruism, all Richard asked was to be present in the lives of those around him. He never wanted, and actively avoided, acknowledgement of any kind. The happiness and success of all the people in his life was all he ever needed. All of us are better off for having known him.
He is survived by his loving wife Francesca; daughter Stephanie and son in law Sean Murray; son Christopher and daughter in law Julianne; sister Barbara; grandchildren Jackson, Dylan, Emily, Anna, and Andrew.
