Michael Ponenti, 80, of Marlboro Township, passed away on September 11, 2020 at Jersey Shore Medical Center.  Mike was born in Brooklyn, NY in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, and raised his family in Gravesend.  Mike was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, and continued to serve his community as a member of the New York City Police Department.  Mike was the Commander of the Catholic War Veteran’s, Asbury Park Post 714.  He was also an active member of the Italian American Association of the Township of Ocean.

Mike was married to his wife Laura of 58 years who he loved dearly, and was an avid sports fan who loved his Yankees.   A man who enjoyed to eat, go fishing, and playing his numbers.  But nothing gave him more joy than spending time with his family and his grand children who he adored and was so proud of.

Mike was predeceased by his daughter, Theresa Autino.  He is survived by his wife, Laura; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dominick Manzi; his son, and daughter-in-law, Albert and Bonnie Ponenti; and his seven grandchildren, Dominick and Michael Manzi; Michael and Angelina Ponenti; and Jessica, Nicole and Christopher Autino.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering on Wednesday, September 23rd, from 9am-10am at Freeman Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan, NJ 07726 followed by a Funeral Liturgy beginning at 10:30AM at St. Thomas More Church, 186 Gordons Corner Rd.
