Obituary of Robert John Vasta

Robert (Bob) John Vasta, 73, of Freehold, NJ, passed away on August 23, 2020 in Freehold, NJ. Bob was born in Staten Island, NY to Mary and Vincent on February 13, 1947. He went to high school at New Dorp and graduated in 1965. He went on to earn a degree from Morehead State University in Kentucky. He served in Vietnam with the Air Force.

Bob had a long career in retail and merchandising including store management and retired in 2018 from Acosta Sales and Marketing. He enjoyed reading and researching history, gardening and watching British mysteries on PBS with his spouse and best friend Kate. Bob was active at his church, Saint Rose of Lima, where he was involved with the annual Christmas Giving Tree program and a member of the Knights of Columbus. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Vincent Vasta. Bob is survived by his spouse of 32 years, Kate (Black) Vasta of Freehold; Sister-in-law Sue Maye (Pete) and Brother-in- law Bill Black (Vicky); and nieces and nephews Michael, Heather, Jaclyn, Liam, Michaela and Finnleigh. Bob will always be remembered for showing up at family get-together’s with his multiple coolers filled with various assortments of food and beverages.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church in Freehold on November 6, 2020 at 10:30am.  Interment of cremains will follow at Brig. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.   Arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, NJ  07728.
