Obituary of Evelyn Mae Hancheck

Evelyn Hancheck passed away from natural causes at age 85.

Evelyn was born on November 27, 1934 to her parents Charles and Lillian Corris in Bloomfield, NJ. After high school graduation, she went to work for Prince Matchabelli Perfume. She worked there until she married the love of her life John S. Hancheck, Jr. After their marriage she moved to Carteret, NJ where she and John started a family of their own. In 1967 Eveyln, John, and their children moved to Manalapan. In 1974 Evelyn went to work in the payroll department at Bamberger’s (now Macy’s) where she worked until she retired in 1992.

Evelyn was a fiercely devoted, genuine, loving, and enthusiastic mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Beloved by all who had the remarkable privilege to know her, she left an incredibly large hole in all of our hearts that she undoubtedly would want us to fill with love. She raised six children and honed them into the incredible spouses, parents, mentors, and friends they are today. Then, whether it was a sports achievement, school play, graduation, holiday, or family get together, she was present, truly present, for each and every one of her beautiful, talented, amazing 15 grandchildren. Whether you needed moral support or just a good laugh, she was ready to be the shoulder you needed to cry on, the arms you needed wrapped around you, or the smiling face you needed to see to know that every storm runs out of rain. 

If the Mets were playing, she was rooting; If you wanted to face inevitable defeat, challenge her to a game of Rummikub; If you think you were braver than her, go to a Zombie movie with her. 

She is predeceased by her husband John S. Hancheck, Jr.; her brother Charles Corris and her sister, Lillian Corris. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Corris and sister, Kathleen Seale; her six children, Evelyn Junice and husband Dennis, John Hancheck and wife Karen, Donna Gawlik and husband John, Steven Hancheck, Thomas Hancheck and wife Kathleen, and Laura Volltrauer and husband Joseph; and her 15 grandchildren, Denise, Kevin, and Holly Junice; John Michael Hancheck; Johnny, Jamie Rose, and Michael Gawlik; Elizabeth and Victoria Hancheck; Megan, Rachel, Nicole, and Steven Hancheck; and Allison and Katie Volltrauer.
