I had both the honor and good fortune to have worked with Garrett, at the Post Office, during the last 5 years of his career there. I attended his retirement party at the fire hall and he and Mrs. Thompson graced us with their presence at our wedding in 1983 After that most of our contact.was through chance meetings around town, which I always enjoyed. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Kind, considerate, funny and a pleasure to be around, Mr. T always approached life in a positive manner. He was a true gentleman. I feel very lucky to have known him. My condolences to the entire Thompson family. Sincerely, Jim Tetley

Garrett and my Dad were great friends. “Partners in crime” my Dad would say. I always enjoyed talking with him about the Fire Company, and how they have changed over the years. He was always around whenever my Folks had a party or event. They’ll finally be together again to swap stories. RIP Gary.

I am SO proud of this man, and privileged to have him for a father. I could never begin to express all the ways he positively influenced my life. I love him dearly and am so thankful for the many years we had. I will miss him, but am glad he is at peace and happily reunited with my mom.
And I am thankful for all his wonderful friends, who not only sustained him during his lifetime but are also giving me strength as I walk through this difficult time. I can feel the love from everyone I meet, and it is a great comfort to know how he was loved and respected by all. Thank you.

I met Garrett in 1987 after joining the staff at the Colts Neck Reformed Church. We remained friends for 22 years. It's hard for me to find words that describe the depth of our friendship and for the many ways Garrett helped me learn the joys of living in Colts Neck. When I became a volunteer firefighter with Fire Company No.1, he showed me how to drive and operate our fire trucks. Throughout the nearly 20 years I served as a pastor tho the CNRC family, he never said one unkind word about me.
Garrett was respected throughout Colts Neck for his quiet wisdom, graceful ways, and deep love for and faithfulness to his wife, Betty. I cherish the years we spent as friends, always experiencing him in ways that filled me with gratitude and goodness. Garrett will be missed, but heaven is certainly richer for his presence.
