Dad tried to teach me to drive a stick shift when I could already drive an automatic, but he failed and had to give up because my brain proved that brain freeze is a real thing. He might as well have been speaking Chinese. Kathy had to come to the rescue. She got me to understand the theory of shifting gears.

I had the pleasure of a visit from Kathy and her father, John Cook, at my home in the berkshires. My husband and I went with them to a dinner gathering with their family members at a great restaurant in a beautiful location. It was such an enjoyable evening. I loved Mr. Cooks presence. He reminded me of the gentlemanly qualities my father also had. God bless him and all the family at this time and especially my dear friend, Kathy.

My Uncle John played a large part in my life. He was a reliable source of advice and guidance throughout my life - of support and encouragement in my career - and of great understanding and comfort in times of trouble and loss.
Throughout the years we shared many happy times over lunches and at family celebrations where Uncle John was always prepared with jokes, riddles, and witty stories to delight and entertain everyone present.
John Cook was one-of-a-kind, always a gentleman, and will be missed and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have had him in their lives.

Dad used to rock me in the rocking chair every night and sing to me and read me stories. My favorite thing was watching him shave and brush his teeth and he would always come get me before he did.

When I was little he used to carry my upstairs by my feet and tuck me in bed. And just a couple of weeks ago he told me, “In case you didn’t know it, the best things in life are free.”

Dad told the best stories about the old days, his parents’ generation, and the life of an actuary during the second half of the twentieth century. What an amazing memory he had!

My condolences to the family of John Cook. I had the privilege to be a lector alongside John over the years at St Rose. He was always gracious and kind. He was a true gentleman and a symbol of Catholic spirit.

Dad used to sing while driving the car. I remember him singing “My Blue Heaven” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo.”
He taught me how to fix a flat bicycle tire. He taught me how to replace a broken sash cord in a window.

May the Presence and the Peace of our Love Jesus Christ surround your family during this time of mourning. Even though I did not know John personally, from his daughter, Mary, I rejoiced to hear the testimony of his life. May God's Blessings of peace be with you all.
