Obituary of John J. Lukasiewicz

John J. Lukasiewicz, father of two, grandfather of eight and lifelong civil servant, both abroad and at home, passed away on Thursday, August 14th at home with his family. He was 96. Born in New York City, where he lived the majority of his life, he also lived in Staten Island, NY for 30 years before retiring to Ponce Inlet, FL. After 18 years, he returned to the northeast, moving to Freehold, NJ to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He was a proud U.S. Army WWII veteran who continued to serve his country at home, first as a postal worker and ultimately as a firefighter for the NYC Fire Department Engine Company #164 on Staten Island. After 23 years of service, he retired in September 1974 as a member of the FDNY Pulaski Association, FDNY Holy Name Society and Polonus Philatelic Society. John was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Freehold. John will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Grace C.; his two sons and daughter-in-law, John and Susan, and Richard, and eight grandchildren: Claire Marie, John, Richard Jr., Joseph A., Daniel J., Kathryn G., Emily J. and Jan Elizabeth. Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday, Aug. 18th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold. A funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
