Obituary of Alexander Todd Getty

On August 4, 2014, Alex Getty died from complications of open-heart surgery at Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey City. Alex was born in Long Branch, NJ on April 5, 1942, the son of Juditha nee Onorato and Rodman Getty. He resided in Rumson for many years. He attended Mercerburg Academy for high school, followed by Lafayette College, PA for his undergraduate degree. Upon graduation from college, he entered the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of captain. He then pursued a career in college administration and education where he spent the last 13 years employed by the Asbury Park Board of Education as a science teacher, where he retired in June 2014. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Desly Le Vine Getty; his brother, Bill Getty; his sons, David Serotkin, Jonathan Getty, and his stepson, Bryan Gamza; his mother-in-law, Sally Le Vine; brother-in-aw, Marc Le Vine; two grandchildren, Zoe Serotkin and Zane Getty; and his dogs, Codey, Ollie, Samson and Dolly Mae. " The world has suffered a great loss." Visitation will be on Sunday, August 10th, from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM. at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. Shiva will be held Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the Le Vine residence, 14 Elmswell Avenue (Leisure Knoll) in Manchester.
