Obituary of Robert H. Cutchin

Robert L.H. Cutchin, 81, of Manalapan, NJ passed away at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge on Jan 10, 2019. Robert was the youngest of 10 children born to Daniel T. Cutchin and Bessie E. Hilliard in Whitakers, NC on Jul 4, 1937. After graduating from Garner Consolidated H.S. in NC, Robert and his parents moved to Brooklyn, NY where he met the love of his life, Annette Pittman, in 1960. They were married in 1962 at our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Brooklyn.

Robert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Saint Francis College and worked for 38 years for Kings County Hospital. He was recognized for the work he did in the EEG Department involving sleep studies which were conducted at Downstate Medical Center. He retired in 1996 from the Department of Neurology.

Robert and his family moved to Manalapan, NJ in 1986 where he worked as a long term substitute teacher for 17 years in the Freehold Regional H.S. School District. He was a devout parishioner of St. Thomas More R.C. Church, Manalapan, and was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 5903 in Englishtown. He was an active member of Jersey Strong Gym, Manalapan, and enjoyed gardening and landscaping his home.

Robert was a good and loving person who battled several illnesses over the past few years. He loved his family, had a great sense of humor and lived his life with much concern for others.

Robert is predeceased by his parents Daniel and Bessie, his brothers Daniel Jr., Joseph and William, and his sisters Carrie, Mittie and Maggie. Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years Annette, his son Jay Shawn of Brooklyn, his sisters Muriel J. Taylor of Jersey City, Portia Cutchin of Brooklyn, Richard C. Cutchin (Ann Frances) of Brooklyn, his nephew Daniel K. Lyons (Diana) of Queens, and many nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces, grand and great nephews, and cousins as well as numerous friends and neighbors whose lives he touched.

In accordance with Robert’s wishes, a private cremation took place. Freeman Funeral Home, Manalapan is in charge of arrangements. A memorial mass officiated by Father John Large will be offered at Saint Thomas More R.C. Church, Manalapan, on Sat, Jan 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM with a repast immediately following at Our Lady of Mercy, Valentine Hall, 8 Pine Street, Englishtown. Donations and memorials in Robert’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Central NJ Blood Center or Deborah Heart and Lung Center.
