Obituary of William E. Bellars, Jr.

William (Bill) E. Bellars Jr., age 79, of Leisure Village East in Lakewood, and formerly from Lincroft, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on October 20, 2018.

He was born in Wallington, New Jersey the eldest of three sons of William E. Sr. and Pauline Bellars.  He grew up in Rutherford, NJ.

Bill graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark and from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ. He met his wife Penny (nee Lanzaron) and they married in September 1961.

He settled in Lincroft in 1978, where he and Penny raised their four sons, William E. III, Timothy, Joseph and Philip.  Bill had been employed by Hercules Inc. for over 35 years.

Bill was a communicant and member of the choir at St. Leo’s the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. He was an active member for over 65 years of the Boy Scouts of America.  He was an Eagle Scout and earned the Silver Beaver Award, a very prestigious honor.

Bill was a 40-year member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a past Grand Master.  He was also a past president of both The Ocean Beach Shores Club, Lavallette, and of Luftman Towers Board of Directors in Lincroft.

Bill was lovingly called by several family members “Bud” or “Billy B”.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time at the LVE pool.  He also enjoyed woodworking and being a member of the Choristers.

Bill was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Victor. He is survived by his loving wife, Penny, and his brother, Dennis, who lives in Lavallette, NJ. He is also survived by his sons and their families: William and Annette of Midlothian, VA; Tim and Claudia, of Charleston, SC; Tim’s former wife, Anna, and their children Axel and Maja of Virginia Beach; Joe, Kerry, Lauren, and Michael of East Windsor, NJ; and Phil, Julie, Emma, and Jack of Longwood, FL.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday October 22, 2018 from 4-8pm at Freeman Freehold Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, New Jersey. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Leo’s the Great Parish in Lincroft, New Jersey on Tuesday October 23, 2018 at 10:15 am. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.
