Obituary of Edward James Vaughan

Edward J. "Arkie" Vaughan, 84, of Manalapan, passed away on July 21, 2014, at home with his family. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, he has resided in Manalapan for the past 48 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Englishtown. He was a proud U.S. Army Korean War veteran and NYC Fire Fighter for 15 years before retiring. Arkie was a member of the Prince of Peace Council #5903 Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 434, Yorktowne Social Club and the 40&8 Veterans organization. He was predeceased by his son, Edward in 2008, and three siblings, Edith, John and Corrine. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta; his children, Patricia Dantone and her husband, Charles, Rosemarie Sauer and her husband, Robert, Christine Neri, and John and his partner, Tom; his daughter-in-law, Karen Oliver; sister-in-law, Mary Dwyer; brother-in-law, Robert Patrick; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, July 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
