Obituary of Marilyn A. Kiely

Marilyn Dunne Kiely, 83 of Howell Twp. formerly of North Arlington, NJ passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2014 surrounded by her loving family . She was predeceased by her husband former Boston Red Sox Baseball Pitcher Leo Kiely, her son Leo P. Kiely, parents Richard and Catherine Dunne, brother Richard (Dick) Dunne, sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn & John (Tommy) Kelly, Joan & Raymond Straub, brothers-in-law, John (Jack) Tyrrell, Robert (Bobby) Kiely, Daniel Kiely, sister-in-law & brother-in-law Eileen(Kiely) & Robert (Bob) Firehock, niece Nancy Tyrrell, nephew-in-law Victor Giglio and great nephew Joshua (Kiely) Cramer. She is survived by her sister Kathryn (Baby) Tyrrell of Freehold Twp., sisters-in-law Joan (Kiely) Hyland of Florida, Evelyn Kiely of Hoboken, nieces and nephews Laura Jane (Terry)Dolan, Maryanne (Fritz) Barth, Susan (Mark) Mittleman, Linda Giglio, Kathy (Al) Perez, Denise Terrigno, Elaine (Jimmy) Plasteras, Judy (Dr. Jim) Louro, John (Sherry) Tyrrell, Barbara Tyrrell, Melissa Tyrrell, Kathy (Joe) Caporale, John (Mary Jo) Kelly, Patricia (Bruce) Olsen, Richard Kelly, Diane (Dr.Tom) Romo, Nancy (Chuck) Deitrich, Jeanne (Tim) Mayes, Gary Kiely, Michelle (Walter) Cramer, Maribeth (Rich) O'Connor, Daniele (Kayson) Brown and many great- nieces, nephews and cousins. Marilyn was born and raised in Jersey City and attended Dickenson H.S. Prior to her marriage she worked for the Jersey Journal Newspaper at Journal Square. Upon marrying Leo and during his baseball career, they lived in Jersey City, Hoboken, Boston, California and Florida. Upon Leo's retirement from baseball, they settled in North Arlington with their son Leo residing there for 43 years. She moved to Howell Twp. 8 years ago where she lived with her niece and her husband Susan & Mark Mittleman. During the baseball years Marilyn and "Little" Leo loved attending all the games watching "Big" Leo play ball and especially enjoyed spending time with her "baseball wife girlfriends". Marilyn was employed by Verizon as a Manager for 30 years, retiring 20 years ago. She was a member of the Bell Tell Retired Pioneers. She enjoyed going to many Broadway Plays & Shows with her girlfriends from work. Marilyn spent summer vacations with her family on Long Beach Island, NJ and took numerous trips with Baby & Jack, her favorite being their trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Visitation will be Thursday, July 10th, from 4-7 PM, at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
