Obituary of Frank A Burton sr

Reverend Frank Burton, 84, was born July 25, 1929 in Montreal, Canada and passed away February 1, 2014 in Colts Neck, NJ after a long illness. He married Izinita Burton in 1955 and she passed away on October 5, 2006. They have five surviving children, Frank Jr., David, Deborah, Robert and Pierre. He was a loving husband of his current wife, Theodora.
He received a Master of Divinity from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and then transferred to the Diocese of New York in 1965 where he finished post graduate work at the American Foundation of Religion and Psychology in New York. He became a diplomat in the Amercian Association of Pastoral Counselors and a member and clinical supervisor for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. He was a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He was also been associated with the Center for Advancement of Group Psychotherapy in NYC since 1984. Most of his career was spent in private practice as pastoral counselor in both NJ and NYC. He also worked in several outpatient mental health centers.
After specialized training, in 1996 he started serving as an interim pastor for three Episcopal parishes, Christ Church- New Brighton in Staten Island, St. James Church in Goshen, NY; and St. Albans Episcopal Chruch in Staten Island. In 2000 he was appointed Priest in Charge at Christ Church in Patterson, NY where he served until his retirement in 2003.
He enjoyed life to the fullest and was an avid swimmer, dancer and chess player. He enjoyed classical music and the study of history and science. He will be dearly missed. A funeral service will be celebrated on February 22nd at 3:30 PM at St. James Chapel at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Inurnment will follow.
