Obituary of Richard Lloyd Leahy

Richard Lloyd Leahy,86,of Freehold died on Thursday, 26 December 2013 at home. He came into the world with his best friend and twin brother, Frederick, on October 01, 1927 in Elizabeth, NJ. He attended St. Bernards Elementary School, and Plainfield High School, which he left in his senior year to join the Navy. After two tours, he attended both Union Junior College, and Seton Hall University. In 1954 he married Harriet, and together they had four children. Richard started his career as a Dental Technician in the Navy, and afterwards,with Fred, they opened Leahy Dental Laboratory in South Plainfield where they worked side-by-side for 40+ years. He was a lifeguard at Manasquan Beach; a member of the Knights of Columbus; served as President of the NJ Dental Association;summered in Ocean Beach III in Lavallette for 35 years; and enjoyed his autumn job each year at Eastmont Orchards. He was known as both a gentleman, and a gentle man and will be greatly missed by many.
Richard was predeceased by his wife, Harriet - passing on the same day seven years earlier. He is survived by his children: Patricia and her husband,John; Susan, her husband Harold and Richard's only granddaughter,Gillian; Richard, and his partner, Gordon; Robert and his wife Lori; as well as his brother Frederick and sister Beverly. He will be interred in Arlington Cemetery, VA beside Harriet. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.
